Langholm is a small town in the eastern corner of Dumfries and Galloway.  It sits astride the A7 route from Carlisle to Edinburgh, eight miles north of the border between England and Scotland.

It is the chief town of Eskdale, the valley of the River Esk, which flows into the Solway Firth just north of Carlisle.
