Local Activities - Common Riding
On the last Friday in July, thousands of visitors and residents celebrate what is known as the Langholm Common Riding. This is the biggest event of the year for the town and dates back over 240 years to the origin of the tradition for marking the communal lands in and around the town.
The celebrations on the day begin at 5am and carry on long into the evening, where massive crowds will gather in the Market Place to congratulate the Cornet on a fantastic day.
The Common Riding is an unmissable day, however accommodation needs to be booked well in advance as the Eskdale Hotel has one of the best views of the Market Place in town.
