Langholm and surrounding area is steeped in history and culture and as such has many interesting places to visit for tourists. Highlights within the town include the Clan Armstrong Museum which contains details and artifacts from the five hundred year old history of the Border Reivers. Additionally, you may be able to track your local ancestry at the Langholm Archive Centre, located on the high street.
Around the town there are several monuments and sculptures dedicated to past residents, including famous Scottish poet, Hugh MacDiramid (1892-1978) who was born and is buried in the town.
Situated 16 miles from Langholm, the largest Buddhist Monastery in the West, Kagyu Samye Ling, sits prominently in the countryside. This magnificent temple welcomes visitors and is open to the public throughout the year.
